I moved back six years ago to take care of my mom. Tomorrow’s not promised to none of us. I’ve tried to give back to her like she gave to me. No matter if I was wrong or right, she took care of me.

My dad died in a hospital. She wants to die at home. I said, “I can do that.”

Dave Haddix, 51, previously worked in construction. We met him while he was standing on his front stoop drinking a Mountain Dew. He and his mom live on Pittsburgh’s North Side.
